KE-TV: Coolest Dad Ever Reinvents Legos Via 3D Printing

Millions, maybe billions of kids have played with Legos, and many of them probably, at some point, were frustrated by the limitations of what they can build.
That's why Carnegie Mellon University professor Golan Levin is the coolest dad ever. Prompted by his son's desire to create a vehicle from Tinkertoys and K'Nex, Levin worked with former student Shawn Sims to develop digital blueprints for a 3D printer to create 45 plastic objects that make up the
Free Universal Construction Kit, as told in an upcoming print issue of Forbes and
online here.
Now, other cool parents with 3D printers can help their expand their child's imagination with these connector pieces, which are practically exact replicas of the original commercial toys thanks to a measurement tool known as an optical comparator.
