For the third year in a row, PodCamp Pittsburgh will stage an “unconference,” exploring social media and new media monetization. This year, PodCamp will be held October 18 and 19 at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh.
What is an unconference? It’s shorthand for an unorganized, ad-hoc conference, although this year’s PodCamp Pittsburgh appears to be relatively well organized, with a schedule chock full of sessions ranging from how to create social media business plans to video compression practices to creating and using blogs and podcasts to using Twitter in business.
In this case, the unconfernce moniker likely refers to the sprawling nature of topics covered at PodCamp, which is billed as being “for people who create, enjoy or are interested in learning more about blogs, vlogs, audio podcasts, web video, content networks and new media monetization.” It also likely refers to the PodCamp Pittsburgh Community, a loosely organized group of tech-minded people who provide informal education and information about social media to businesses, educators, artists and non-profits in the Pittsburgh region.
