The first-ever Energy Innovation Forum is underway today, October 23, at Penn State, where 18 small, innovative Pennsylvania companies are presenting various energy and technology products to representatives of major corporations such as Siemens, Lockheed Martin, PPG and Curtiss-Wright.
The tech companies, which have come from across the Commonwealth, are divided into two tracks for the day-long forum: solar, biomass, and geothermal on one track, and electronics and materials on the other. Some company presentations feature previously unpublicized energy technologies and products.
Organizer Gary Miller, a senior technical specialist with PennTAP, says the idea for the forum came from a NASA program he worked on that linked federally funded tech companies with major corporations. He wanted to use the same format to help innovative tech companies in Pennsylvania link up with major corporations that might be interested in ideas energy ideas, technologies and products not yet on the market.
“This format has been successful in aligning technologies to match corporations areas of interest, and we thought a focus on energy was very appropriate at this time,” says Miller.
