Global Entrepreneurship Week comes to Philly

on
Philadelphians are not about to be left out of Global Entrepreneurship Week, the first-ever worldwide celebration of the entrepreneurial spirit, happening this week in 77 countries among some 5 million participants.

“Philadelphia is a hotbed for entrepreneurial activity on the east coast,” says Carmen Scott Dawson, State Director for Global Entrepreneurship Week. “Our challenge in the region is to create meaningful connections between those entrepreneurs.”

Toward that end, Unleashphilly, the local flagship event of the week, was held Tuesday at World Café Live, where some 150 entrepreneurs exchanged ideas with each other and with myriad entrepreneurial agencies, ten universities, and organizations such as Innovation Philadelphia, the U.S. Small Business Administration, Pennsylvania Small Business Development Center, Team PA and Benjamin Franklin Technology Partners.

“Unleashphilly was tremendously successful because we accomplished our objective, which was to create meaningful connections amongst participants from all walks of life,” Dawson says. “It wasn’t like a standard networking event, where you’re basically just soliciting work. People were really excited and interested in developing connections and finding synergies.”

The all-day event included music performances by The New Old Fashioned (CheapO Records), Trevor Gordon Hall (Revel Music Group), and Brian Hannon of Blue Collar.

The final events of Global Entrepreneurship Week in Philadelphia are slated for Thursday and Friday. See the online schedule for more information.
