With approval from the Public Utility Commission giving official sanction to the purchase, Veolia Transportation, the North American arm of Veolia Transport, which employs some 81,500 people in 30 countries on five continents, will become the owner of the three cab services (Yellow, Checker, and Peoples), and Express Shuttle, Embassy Coach and Limousine Service, Star Paratransit, PTG Charter Services, and Freedom Coach that provide services in the city of Pittsburgh and surrounding areas with a combined fleet of more than 600 vehicles.
“We are delighted by the PUCs approval,” says PTG President and CEO James Campolongo, who will continue to manage the operation under a five year contract. In his view, the purchase brings with it the promise of growth in service, additions of technology to the system, and the likelihood of adding employees.
Recognized for an emphasis on the integration of environmental and transportation planning, Veolia Transport began providing bus service 150 years ago in France and is part of the larger worldwide environmental services company Veolia Environment, with headquarters in Paris.
