Personal training Web site passes Good Housekeeping’s fitness test

There are many motivations for people to exercise and be fit. The folks at MyHomePersonalTrainer may have found the most effective inspiration for perspiration–rewards.

The site, headquartered in Bucks County, rewards registered users for consistent interaction with its online features with “eFit” points that go toward discounted purchases of fitness accessories. The rewards for paying members are even greater: cash. It’s one of the reasons Good Housekeeping featured it as a Top Fitness Website in the magazine’s March issue.

”We try to give people motivation to be consistent with their activity and make it more of a lifestyle,” Latterner says.

The five year-old site boasts 40,000 members and is adding them at a rate of about 1,000 per month, according to VP of Marketing Julie Latterner.

”We feel our biggest strength is we have a great team of developers who are in tune with what our members are looking for,” she says.

The site’s rewards program is a good example. There are a bevy of ways users can utilize MyHomePersonalTrainer.com, which was co-founded by certified personal trainer Robert Adams. That includes blogging about their fitness quest or sharing fitness markers, sharing safety tips like which are the compression socks for working out or injury-preventative warm up exercises, building personalized fitness and nutrition plans, tracking calories and scheduling workouts and meals. There are also videos and photos to demonstrate proper execution of workout-specific exercises.

There’s also a featured member, selected quarterly, that provides motivation and examples that work for other users. Latterner says the site tries to steer clear of workout and nutrition fads.

”It may not be the flashiest way of doing things, but we know what works,” she said.
