TECHQuest, the trade association of Pennsylvania’s technology industry, honored George White, the Chief Information Officer of the Pennsylvania Attorney General, for Outstanding Leadership in Technology at the association’s 17th Annual Technology Awards Gala Friday at Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts in Harrisburg.

Citing White’s influence on the use of IT by state attorneys general throughout the United States, the judges selecting him among four nominees noted that the conversion of the office of the Pennsylvania attorney general to a “completely virtualized server environment” allowed the agency to reduce hardware requirements by more than 50 percent while increasing its capacity and efficiency in handling documents.

The judges also recognized technology innovators in several other categories.

Dr. Rhonda Joseph of Penn State Harrisburg was named Technology Educator of the Year for her work in preparing students for jobs in the real world by providing them with experience in the use of a wide range of information technology tools and through courses in e-business built upon many different technological platforms.

JPL, a web developer, was honored as Technology Provider of the Year for projects addressing the safety of children as well as high volume sites for commercial clients.

Capital Blue Cross was recognized for the Best Application of Technology for developing–with DataQuest Inc–an enterprise software system for tracking and recovering benefit claims among multiple insurers.

The award for Public Service Innovation went to the U.S. Navy’s Supply Information Systems Activity in Mechanicsburg for a project funded by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency. The project is a web-based prototype for the information suite that makes it possible to monitor in real time the progress of military sales between the U.S. government and its friends and allies from the time orders are placed through delivery.

Two new 3-D interactive simulation products for training won the prize for Technology Product of the Year for Concurrent Technologies Corporation.

QBC Diagnostics, manufacturer of a patented horizontal centrifuge, was named Growth Company of the Year, and Tyco Electronics, with nearly $14.8 billion in annual sales, was honored as Pennsylvania’s Technology Company of the Year.
