Zep zips into Allentown with green product line, creates 100 jobs

on

Anyone who has dirtied their hands working in a garage or factory has probably at some point relied on a tube of Zep to clean up. But the kinds of cleaning supplies it will ship from its new distribution center in the Lehigh Valley are decidedly different than some might remember.

Zep Inc. which sells an entire line of environmentally preferred products sold under the GreenLink and EnviroEdge brands, has realigned several small facilities along the Eastern seaboard with a 100,000 square foot distribution center in Breinigsville, a few miles west of Allentown off of I-78, that will create 100 jobs. The new center, dubbed “Zep East,” will have quick-ship capabilities of its cleaning and maintenance solutions for commercial, industrial, institutional and consumer customers.

“During the search phase of the project, we worked closely with state and local officials, who demonstrated that Pennsylvania would be an extremely welcoming and attractive state in which to locate our new facility,” says Zep spokeswoman Jill Gilmer.

The new address puts Zep, which has headquarters in Atlanta since its inception in 1937 and reported nearly $600 million in net sales last year, within 300 miles of all major northeastern population areas.  The company expects its order fulfillment capability to be more efficient as demand grows for its green products, like its laundry products made with biodegradable ingredients.

“Each of Zep’s GreenLink products must meet a rigorous, internal, 17-point responsible chemical formulation criteria, and many are also certified by Green Seal, EcoLogo, and the U.S. EPA’s Design for the Environment (DfE) program,” says Gilmer.
