Big ideas deserve big rewards. That’s the strategy behind the The B. I. G. (Business Ideas Gone Wild) competition sponsored by the Tri-County Keystone Innovation Zone, Penn State DuBois and the Greater DuBois Chamber of Commerce.
Ideas may be for new products, new services, new or improved business processes, but must have potential to result in sales, profits, and employment. A total of $10,000 in prizes–$1,000 in cash and $9,000 in services–goes to the contest winner or winning team, who must be 18 or older and reside in one of the six northcentral Pennsylvania counties (Cameron, Cleafield, Elk, Jefferson, McKean, and Potter ). Participants must complete an online application and must sign a document certifying that the idea is theirs.
“Some of the services are funded by the North Central PA Regional Planning and Development Commission, some by the Keystone Innovation Zone,” explains Sally Moran, technology transfer coordinator at Penn State DuBois. To date, says Moran, the program has attracted seven official entries and lots of web interest. The application deadline is September 14.
