Over a hundred devoted open source groupies will gather Oct. 17 for the second annual Central Pennsylvania Open Source Conference. Modestly billing itself as a “small, low-cost conference,” it aims to provide networking opportunities for software developers and tech architects in the region.
The idea, says environmental engineer John Mulligan, one of the organizers, is to help promote open source software, give back to the community, and give participants a chance to meet motivated and talented developers for possible recruitment. Last year’s conference, with 18 speakers, attracted 100 attendees. With a larger venue for the Oct. 17 event, the second conference will be able to accommodate more people. Local sponsors include Anteil, Zenoss, Virtualmin, xforty Technologies, and Ubuntu Pennsylvania Local Community Team.
“So far, we’re registered about 20 percent” of the 150-person attendance limit, says Mulligan. “Almost all speakers are from the local region– Christian Pearce of xforty technologies, Premal Vora from Penn State Harrisburg, and Jim Capp, CEO of Anteil, Inc.” Others hail from the Philadelphia area.
The conference will be held at Harrisburg University of Science and Technology. Those who register before Sept. 24 are guaranteed a free T-shirt.
