While other companies struggled to find ways to stay afloat during the recession, BioClinica was on the attack the last 12 months. The company re-branded itself with a new name and new focus and also made two significant acquisitions–of the CardioNow unit of Afga HealthCare and Tourtelotte Solutions Inc.–in September.
That made it a logical choice as Technology Company of the Year, given by the Eastern Technology Council at its annual Enterprise Awards gala at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia on Dec. 3.
“Our team has focused on our long-term vision of making the pharmaceutical and medical device development process efficient,” says BioClinica president and CEO Mark Weinstein.
There were other success stories honored, including Malvern’s Fujirebio Diagnostics, named Life Sciences Company of the Year for its work on cancer biomarkers. Jeffrey Westphal of Vertex Inc., the Berwyn tax software company, was named Technology CEO of the year. The other major award was picked up Heatlh Advocate Inc.’s Michael Cardillo, named Life Sciences CEO of the Year for helping the Plymouth Meeting healthcare advocate and assistance company to the No. 60 spot on the Philadelphia 100 list of fastest-growing private companies this year.
Also picking up awards were: Blue Bell health-plan software developer Portico Systems (Emerging Technology Company); Malvern environmentally friendly sanitzation product maker PuriCore PLC (Emerging Life Sciences Company); and Wayne web site Healthy Humans (Life Sciences Startup Company).
The Eastern Technology Council is Greater Philadelphia’s largest technology and life sciences trade association.
