IRMC, which employs 1,300, is ranked 60th on the 13th annual list, announced last week. The magazine said that this years rankings were based on hiring practices and the ways in which companies are helping their employees weather the recession.
Jim Kinneer, vice president for people and organizational development at IRMC, says the hospitals extremely low turnover in nursing staff and incentive programs that reward workers at all job levels gave IRMC the nod.
Our culture is patient-centered, but good for workers, says Kinneer. Take our patient satisfaction scores. We have targets for levels of patient satisfaction, and everybody participates in the incentive, based on hours worked.”
Kinneer also cited IRMCs superior retention rates for nursing staff. Our nurse turnover is two percent, versus (a national average of) eight percent. Its well below industry and regional benchmarks. We have savings not just in retention but in attracting new employees, since we get lots of positive word-of-mouth.
Town hall meetings and regular informal birthday break sessions with CEO Stephen A. Wolf keep communications strong, says Kinneer,
The hospital has been named one of the Best Places to Work in Pennsylvania for the last five years and named one of the Best Places to Work in Healthcare by Modern Healthcare magazine for the last two years.
