on

Looking for other folks interested in greening northwestern Pennsylvania? Meet ’em at a networking event next Wednesday, March 31, at the Erie Art Museum. The event is free and open to all those interested in green building, design, operations and maintenance; green building products and services; sustainable and healthy communities; green jobs; and environmental education.

The event is an effort of the Green Building Alliance. The Northwestern PA branch comprises Cameron,Clarion, Crawford, Elk, Erie, Forest, Jefferson, McKean, Mercer,Venango, and Warren counties. Leaders are Guy McUmber, a sustainability coordinator for the state Department of Environmental Protection, and Kathy Greely of PSD Consulting. PSD works with PA Home Energy, a firm that certifies home energy auditors. Joining McUmber and Greely as new co-chairs are Melainie Johnson of the Erie Regional Chamber and Growth Partnership and Nick Hoffman with the regional Center for Workforce Excellence

“Guy is a member of our green schools committee,” explains GBA’s Jenna Cramer. “The northwestern group is gearing up and meeting monthly.  There’s a really wide representation at the table. We want to increase events and influence projects going forward by showcasing the region’s great green projects.”

The event begins at 4 p.m. with a preview of the museum’s expansion project. Slated to open this fall, it is pursuing LEED silver or gold certification for new construction. The tour will be followed by food and beverages. Register by March 29.
