Pittsburgh service returns to DuBois airport

on
Business travelers in Clearfield and Jefferson counties can look forward to a resumption of airline service from DuBois to Pittsburgh early this summer.

Gulfstream International, a franchisee of Continental Airlines, will pick up the route previously handled by USAirways, which dropped the service from the DuBois airport in May 2008. In addition to one daily Pittsburgh departure and arrival seven days a week, two departures and arrivals for Harrisburg are also on tap.

“It’s a very good thing for Pennsylvania to be able to get back some of the intercity service,” says airport manager Bob Shaffer. “At one time we had as many as nine flights day, seven days a week.” While no schedule has been set, Shaffer expects the flights to begin “in the June time frame.”

Shaffer estimates that the new service will attract about 300 passengers a month. That would nearly double the traffic at DuBois, where passenger counts have hovered around 360 per month of late. The airport is planning runway repairs this summer.
