proposition. Inexperienced drivers approach the busy, speedy chaos of
oncoming traffic with trepidation, inching forward until they see a way
in. But as any driving instructor will tell you, its best to see your
opening and go in strong.
The Greater Philadelphia region has long been a hotbed of the global
pharmaceutical industry. But recent mergers and acquisitions have left
many qualified, corporate professionals jobless and looking for their
opening. And a new entrepreneurship program–Entrepreneur OnRamp–shows these new drivers how to get on the
freeway. The program is being co-sponsored by BioAdvance, the University City Science Center, We Work for Health and The Wharton Small Business Development Center.
Consolidation in the global pharmaceutical market has left some very talented people
displaced and looking for a place to start, says BioAdvance director of marketing and communications Ellen Semple. EOR will combine instruction and important
context in an effort to help emerging life science businesses and displaced individuals interested in starting a new company to get businesses started and create a new network.
BioAdvance has been working with biomedical firms to help drive new innovations that have the potential to positively impact human health. But the Entrepreneur OnRamp turns
the potentially negative consequence of layoffs and downsizing into a
positive. Using four modules–effective business planning, legal issues,
financing and commercialization–the program offers emerging entrepreneurs the opportunity to work with entrepreneur instructors to
take their ideas from the lab to the pharmacy. And the best part is it’s
all free for those who qualify.
We are keeping this very open to anyone from the region who has a very early stage, human health-focused business idea. The purpose of the day is to help these professionals explore what it means to
start up a new business, says Semple. We would work with business people or scientific
people at the earliest stages and help them connect with the right
resources.
So many new drivers are waiting for their chance to merge. But with the
right instructors and a little bravery, BioAdvance hopes their new
drivers will jump right in. Click here to apply for the
Entrepreneur OnRamp.
