FMC returns to Indiana County, adds jobs

on

What a difference a shale makes. After a four-year hiatus, FMC Technologies is returning to Indiana County. The energy manufacturer is  building a new 10,000-square-foot sales and service center in the Burrell Township corporate campus park for its fluid control systems business and will employ 15-20 sales and service staffers beginning in late summer.

Named the world’s most admired oil and gas equipment service company by Fortune Magazine in 2010,  FMC has over 10,000 employees and operates 25 production facilities in 15 countries. The company  designs, manufactures and services products including subsea production and processing systems, surface wellhead systems, high pressure fluid control equipment, measurement solutions, and marine loading systems for the oil and gas industry.

FMC manufactured equipment in western Pennsylvania in the late 20th century, with more than 830 workers at peak capacity. It closed its Blairsville plant in 1992 and its Homer city plant in 2006.

Keith Haynes, local manager for FMC, told reporters that the company is now expanding into the Marcellus shale region throughout western and northern  Pennsylvania.. He said the company based the new site decision on Indiana County’s central location within the shale basin and because it puts FMC close to customers like Halliburton. Company spokesman Michael King says that hiring will continue as appropriate.
