In January, the Pennsylvania Bureau of Labor and Industry published their 2010 Green Jobs report. The report took a detailed look at current figures and announced an aggressive push throughout the state to expand green jobs and create a cleaner planet. In total, the plan calls for $10 billion in public and private investment. This funding is to be the catalyst for creating 115,000 jobs.
This week, that investment process took a big step forward. Bucks County window manufacturers Haddon Windows announced that they are expanding their Bensalem manufacturing facility and creating 50 new green jobs. The $2.4 million project received a $75,000 opportunity grant and a $25,000 training grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, with support from the Governor’s Action Team and the Bucks County Economic Development Corporation.
“We greatly appreciate the support of Governor Rendell and his economic development team,"quot; says Haddon President John Haddon Jr. “This breakthrough, and the commonwealth’s support of our work and business, is another milestone in our mission to make energy efficiency affordable.”
After acquiring competitor Accu-Weld LLC last year, Haddon introduced dual-pane, R-5 windows, a design style promoted by the U.S. Department of Energy as the most energy-efficient on the market. And with other innovations like a $400,000 “cool roof,” county and state developers agree that Haddon Windows practices what they preach.
“This is another exciting project for Bucks County in the growing green energy field,” said BCEDC Executive Director Robert F. Cormack. “Haddon Windows has worked with BCEDC since arriving in the county and, with this project, we were able to continue our strong relationship with the Governor’s Action Team and advance our shared objective of supporting businesses looking to relocate or expand here while creating and retaining jobs.”
