If you’re heading to the Reading area, a new iPhone app can help you make the most of your visit.
Last month the Greater Reading Convention & Visitors Bureau released an application for visitors to download on the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The free app shows Berks County events, tourist attractions, restaurants and hotels. Tapping on a specific attraction displays hours, Google maps of the area, and points of interest nearby.
“Anybody, anywhere, if they’re going through for the weekend, can have everything at their fingertips,” says Crystal Seitz, president of the convention and visitors bureau.
The app appears to have driven more traffic to the organization’s main website in just the last few weeks, Seitz said. In a normal month the site gets about 15,000 visitors, but around 20,000 checked it out last month. Seitz suspects the app has something to do with the uptick. In the first nine months of this year more than 6,000 people visited the bureau’s mobile-friendly site, which has a similar setup to the iPhone app.
Now the app is available on Apple devices and smart phones. The next step is to release it for Android devices. Later, the bureau hopes to add coupons to the app’s features.
