While it was difficult for many Pennsylvanians to watch the clock run out on Super Bowl XLV and the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday in Texas, two other points of PA pride came through in the clutch.
First, it was PennFuture, PA’s leading environmental organization and the uncontested victor in EnviroBowl 2011. PennFuture outdid Clean Wisconsin in a battle for donations and while the Packers hoisted the Vince Lombardi trophy, the Wisconsin-based environmental group had to show support for Pittsburgh on its Facebook page (they also posted this concession video). PennFuture won the fundraising battle by the score of $7,226-$4,546.
Pennsylvania’s other record-setting feat last week came in the social media arena, thanks to Punxsutawney Phil’s growing popularity on Foursquare. More than 27,000 people unlocked the PA Groundhog Day badge, marking the most unlocks of any single-day partner badge that Foursquare has ever done.
“Pennsylvania’s continued enthusiasm and openness to new partnership opportunities and Foursquare’s ability to attract and reward people combine to make a powerful partnership,” says Eric Friedman, Foursquare’s director of business development.
