Move over Silicon Valley and NYC, Pittsburgh is among the fastest-growing metropolitan areas for well-paying technology jobs in a report released this month by Dice.com.
Detroit topped the list, having doubled the number of technology jobs since last year. Pittsburgh ranked sixth behind Detroit, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus and Seattle.
Pittsburgh technology professionals can expect to earn more than $65,000 a year with job opportunities in the area, which are up 45 percent this year, the report noted.
“Pittsburgh is proving itself to be a viable city for tech professionals who want to not only work in its trademark specialty metals, but also in local government entities, healthcare and financial services,” says Tom Silver, senior vice president North America of Dice. “Companies are looking for Project Managers, Software Engineers and Business Analysts, showing that highly-skilled tech pros are in demand.”
Innovation Works’ Kathy Mitchell, human resources strategist, can vouch for the economic upturn. As one of the nation’s most active seed-stage investors in technology companies, IW has helped to place more than 100 entrepreneurial professionals in local startup companies.
“Every day I work with some of the most exciting entrepreneurs and innovators in the world to find exceptional talent,” says Mitchell. “There are numerous opportunities for people with passion, adaptive excellence and a moderate to high risk gene to lead these companies.”
