New Mechanicsburg company provides small and medium-sized businesses path to e-commerce

on
Bob Costello decided the best way to guarantee he’d always have a good job and keep growing professionally was to create his own job.

He opened Cumberland Fulfillment in Mechanicsburg last year, using the experience he gained at his last employer, Blanchard & Loeb Publishers. In the five years Costello had worked for the publisher of educational materials for nurses, he developed its internal fulfillment division, which processed customers’ orders and make sure they were sent out properly. Now, that company is one of Cumberland Fulfillment’s customers.

Costello and his two part-time employees provide services including shipping, order processing and invoicing. He says the company’s focus is on smaller businesses that want to get into e-commerce or direct mail, but don’t have the time or people to dedicate to those tasks.

He explains that large fulfillment companies are designed for customers that send a high volume of orders and smaller businesses often can’t afford their services – especially if they have to pay just to be in that company’s order system whether they actually ship anything or not.

“My concept is to give those small, medium-sized businesses a chance to put their foot in the door,” Costello says.
