Rutter’s convenience stores enter world of mobile game apps with Spin and Win

on

Plenty of people stop into the local gas station for a lottery ticket, but now a chain of convenience stores in south-central PA offers a way for customers to play on their smart phones for a chance to win prizes.

Rutter’s Farm Stores, a York-based chain with 55 locations, recently launched what it says is the first game app from a convenience store. The game, Spin and Win, is reminiscent of a slot machine and allows 20 free spins daily, according to the company website. Prizes include extra spins, free products and discounts. Users have to belong to the Rutter’s Rewards program, which gives customers discounts on gas in exchange for in-store shopping. For now, Spin and Win is just available on iPhones, but Android and BlackBerry versions are coming.

Spin and Win isn’t the first time Rutter’s has entered the world of smartphone applications. Its first app, available on all three smart phone platforms, helps customers find the nearest Rutter’s. Those who love the chain’s jingle can even download it as a ringtone.
