It should come as no surprise that youthful Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl is putting a premium on technology. The city announced last week its adoption of Google Apps for Government as part of a comprehensive effort to modernize its government and improve operational efficiencies.
The transition of its email service from Microsoft Exchange, including nearly 3,000 city employees, took four months and should save the city an estimated 25 percent in email support costs.
City employee email addresses changed from:
firstname.lastname@city.pittsburgh.pa.us
to
firstname.lastname@pittsburghpa.gov
Citizens should use the latter address immediately (emails sent to old addresses will be appropriately forwarded).
