Downtown York revitalization has Moxie

on

From her office, just down the street from where her great grandfather had his business, Julie Lando can survey the ongoing transformation, and her firm’s contribution, to her native city’s downtown.

Lando is president of Moxie,an advertising and communications firm that in four years has been associated with several key downtown projects. “To me, the revitalization of downtown York is really important, so I’m honored to be a part of it,” she says.

Moxie is playing a large role in the new Marketview Arts facility, an arts hub that opened this spring. The York County Industrial Development Authority spent $2.9 million to renovate and reuse the 20,000-plus-square foot building, the rundown former home of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, into artists’ studios and housing, gallery space and facilities for the York College art department.

Moxie came up with Marketview's name, a tagline – “A Studio for Creativity,” logo and brand identity and is handling marketing. In addition, a new sister company called Mosaics by Moxie is managing the building’s Gallery Hall, an event venue that can be used for weddings and other private events, as well as art shows. A grand opening event is set for October 5.

Other Moxie clients include the Central Market and Strand Capitol Performing Arts Center, which, like Marketview Arts, are giving new life to downtown landmarks.

“The new look and feel of downtown York is about revitalization, and the arts play a critical role in that transformation,” says Lando.
