Next time you crack open a Yuengling on a 100-degree day, don't forget to toast Deacom for helping put that cold brew into your hand.
The growing Wayne-based firm is a maker of enterprise resource planning software for process manufacturers. Translation: Deacom's software streamlines manufacturing by integrating disparate functions for its 100 clients, makers of everything from food and beverages (D. G. Yuengling & Son, among them), pharmaceuticals, chemicals and cosmetics – all things that once made cannot be unmade back into their component parts.
Jay Deakins founded the company in 1995 in his basement. As recently as 2006, Deakins had a staff of only seven. “Over the course of the past six years the company has grown exponentially,” says spokeswoman Stephanie Eaves. “The software has improved, the client base has grown and as such, nearly every desk in the office is occupied. Within the next six months we plan to knock down a wall of the office building and expand.” Deacom currently has 34 employees and is actively hiring with the expectation of hitting 40 within a year, Eaves adds.
Its latest product is an iPhone app; a Droid app is next up, says Eaves. “Our clients will be able to access the … functions of Deacom’s software through this app and pretty soon (hopefully within 6 months) they will be able to manage all their manufacturing and facility operations (inventory management, quality control, scheduling, order entry, etc.) from their smartphone or tablet,” she says.
