Weidenhammer has been in the vanguard of Pennsylvania information technology firms since its founding in 1978, at the dawn of the computer revolution. But only now has the firm secured an office in Center City Philadelphia.
John P. Weidenhammer started his business with an investment of $100. Today, Weidenhammer is a $42 million company that provides strategy, marketing and technology solutions to clients both domestic and international. Besides its headquarters in Wyomissing, it has offices in Lancaster, Allentown and Wayne, along with Denver, CO, Kalamazoo, MI, and Austin, TX.
So why Philadelphia, now, after all these years?
“By having a Center City presence, we are in the heart of the ‘Philly tech scene’ and can better serve our Philadelphia customers,” says Weidenhammer. “In addition, a number of our business partners, including Cisco, Microsoft, and IBM are in the building [1601 Market Street] so we expect an increase in collaboration on projects and events.”
Weidenhammer has ambitious plans to grow, both amid Center City’s office towers and beyond.
Over the next five years, the company expects to “grow into new geographic areas and service them with staff physically located in the region,” says James P. Bitler, the company’s marketing and communications manager. “We expect to expand in the current product and service lines as well as adjacent spaces…We expect 50 percent of our revenue to come from products and services we were not selling in 2016. We also expect that…50 percent of our revenue will be obtained from recurring revenue streams.”
“We want to be closer to our customers who are located in [Philadelphia],” he adds. “We believe there is great potential to grow our customer base in the city.”
With expansion will come jobs. The company has about 190 workers total, with about 90 at the Wyomissing headquarters. Initially, the Philadelphia office will be home to four employees, but that number will grow.
In a sort of advance welcome to Weidenhammer, the Philadelphia Business Journal named John Weidenhammer a 2017 Tech Disrupter earlier this year.
