Harrisburg entrepreneur compares quality Web hosting to the perfect cup of coffee

on

It's been about three years since Dave Sheranko first thought of starting a website hosting company in Harrisburg, and that idea became reality on New Year's Day.

“With the city's current cultural and business renaissance, this seemed like the perfect time to hit 'Start,' ” says the founder of Fresh Roasted Hosting. The name combines his affection for coffee with his passion for Web hosting. Sheranko, a self-described coffee aficionado, is partial to whole Sumatra beans brewed in a French press.

His goal is for Fresh Roasted Hosting to be a high-end, affordable website hosting company. He compares run-of-the-mill providers to gas-station coffee, while his business is more like a specialty coffee shop. For example, he and his seven employees limit the number of clients who use each server to prevent sites from loading slowly. “If my website all of a sudden becomes really popular, it doesn't drag down your website,” says Sheranko, who worked in information technology before starting his business.

So far Fresh Roasted Hosting has about three dozen clients, evenly split between personal and business customers. It uses space in two data centers and is already working on a third. “We have exceeded all our wildest forecasts,” he says. Later this year the company plans to start offering hosting in the so-called cloud, so data for websites is stored on multiple servers.
