Lew Smith has only been with Interphase Systems, a leading management and technology consulting organization in Plymouth Meeting, for a year. But as Practice Manager for Virtualization Solutions, he leads a team of about three dozen in running Interphase’s virtualization practice, staying on top of trends in the virtualization market and assessing customer needs.
That made him the perfect candidate to pen Interphase’s Virtualization Exchange blog and promote his company’s upcoming VE 2009 Conference. Smith hopes the blog, which he started in early March and averages three posts per week, can generate interest in the conference as well as fill a void regionally.
“Within the region there are several technical blogs, but I don’t feel there are a ton of virtualization-specific blogs,” says Smith. “We are looking to create a one-stop shop for virtualization and give people good solid feedback.”
Smith’s most recent post is a lengthy and detailed story on “cloud computing,” another in a long line of new industry buzzwords, but much of the VE blog is still on Interphase’s VE conference at the Cira Centre in Philadelphia on May 6. The event is designed for IT leaders who are virtualization enthusiasts and advanced users, covering topics like server consolidation, desktop virtualization, and disaster recovery solutions.
Smith said virtualization can have a major impact on a company’s bottom line, requiring less power and hardware and allowing for greater business continuity. He welcomes guest posts, comments and questions.
“We’re reaching out to the IT and business communities to discuss the multiple uses and nuances of virtualization,” he says.
