MossRehab has been a regular on the annual U.S. News & World Report survey of “America’s Best Hospitals for more than a decade.” This year’s list marks the center’s 16th appearance in the rankings, which scores Moss Rehab 15th out of 23 rehabilitation hospitals nationwide.
“Our physicians and staff work hard every day to deliver the highest level of care to our patients, and the recognition in U.S. News and World Report… affirms their commitment,” says Ruth Lefton, Moss Rehab’s COO.
While its comprehensive rehabilitative services, including a special focus on medical and cognitive rehabilitation and problems with movement, have long been impressive, it’s the center’s groundbreaking work in the paralysis field that has gained recent attention. MossRehab is the exclusive site for U.S. clinical trials of ReWalk, which is billed as the first commercially viable upright device that enables paralyzed individuals to stand, walk, and climb stairs. Moss Rehab’s chair of the Department of Physical Medicine, Dr. Alberto Esquenazi, was instrumental in the development of ReWalk and is leading the trials.
The center, which treats patients with complex physical needs for brain injury, spinal cord injury, stroke, musculoskeletal disorders, orthopedic and sports related injuries, trauma and neurological diseases, has locations in Philadelphia and just outside the city in Elkins Park. It also provides patient care at hospitals in Langhorne and Allentown.
The U.S. News rankings screened nearly 5,000 medical centers, examining how well institutions perform in complex and demanding situations. Board-certified physicians then made selections according to specialty.
