Davis Vision Inc. opened a new 40,000-square-foot ophthalmic fabrication lab on Wednesday in Newtown Square outside Philadelphia, more than doubling its lab space.
The optics lab joins three other Davis Vision regional lab facilities nationwide and employs the latest technology, robotics and optics systems, including a Zeiss Anti-Reflective Coating Center, which will improve deliver times on orders, the Plainview, NY-based company said in a statement.
“Enhanced laboratory capabilities keep Davis Vision ahead of the curve with the ever-increasing demand for popular options, such as anti-reflective coatings, while enabling us to manage costs for our clients,” says Davis Vision President Steve Holden.
The new lab is significantly larger than the company’s previous 13,000-square-foot lab, which was also located in the Philadelphia suburbs. With plenty of room for expansion, as business grows Davis Vision will hire more staff, a company spokesman said. Over time, the new laboratory will double daily processing capacity from 3,000 to 6,000 custom eyeglasses orders.
