The fastest growing private companies in Greater Philadelphia this year can now claim the honor of being named to the Philadelphia 100. The Entrepreneurs’ Forum of Greater Philadelphia, Philadelphia Business Journal and Wharton Small Business Development Center last week concluded the 2008 Philadelphia 100 program, now in its 20th year, with an awards ceremony at the Sheraton Hotel in Center City.
The program tracks and recognizes the top 100 privately held companies in the region as a way to promote the economic vitality of the region and measure the overall economic impact of the top 100 fastest growing companies. Nominations for the 2008 list ended on July 11.
The roster this year was heavy with hi-tech media firms, sustainable industry, biotech and pharmaceutical companies, with SolarWorks NJ LLC, a solar energy company, claiming the number one spot for the second year in a row.
SolarWorks, based in Turnersville, N.J., earlier this month announced a $14 million deal to develop a solar farm on 12 acres of land in Williamstown, N.J., owned by Suncatcher Clean Energy LLC. The solar farm will be the largest energy system of its kind in South Jersey and one of the largest in the state.
Coming in at second place was McGrath Systems, a Blue Bell-based professional recruiting service that focuses on Engineering, Manufacturing, Information Technology, Accounting and Finance, and Clinical/Scientific job placement.
