Tyco Electronics honored as PA’s Technology Company of the Year

With more than 500 engineers in Pennsylvania designing and improving products in areas like energy and information management, Tyco Electronics‘ day-to-day work involves staying on the cutting edge of technology.

In 2008, no other company in the Commonwealth did it better, according to TECHQuest Pennsylvania, which honored Tyco Electronics as the Technology Company of the Year. The award was given to the PA-based $13 billion global provider of engineered electronic components in recognition of its strategic use of technology for the advancement of the company and the technology industry as a whole in Pennsylvania.

“Technology leadership is an outcome of our commitment to innovation,” says Rob Shaddock, Tyco Electronics Senior VP and CTO.

That innovation includes energy-saving solutions in LED lighting and key products in solar and wind energy generation. The company has also created a upper-efficient high voltage connector system that is easier to and safer to apply with test samples in use in electric generators in Pennsylvania.

In the last year, the company updated its online electronic catalog of more than 500,000 part numbers for customers in the automotive, aerospace, defense, telecommunications and consumer electronics sectors. The company is excited about its next generation fiber optic interconnect systems, which are being demonstrated at a whopping 40 Gbits per second.

TECHQuest is an alliance of companies and tech professionals that promote sustained growth in technology business development statewide and annually honors organizations and individuals forĀ  accomplishments and innovative practices related to advanced technology.
