A southwestern PA medical-device maker is planning to expand, both physically and by adding to its payroll.
Xodus Medical supplies devices to medical practices in the United States and 44 other countries. Its products are primarily targeted toward those used in surgery and include scalpels, skin markers and instrument holders. The southwest PA company's president, Craig Kaforey, says business is growing, partially because Xodus' products help hospitals comply with safety regulations written by various industry accrediting organizations.
As a result the company is planning to add 18,000 square feet to its manufacturing, warehouse and office facilities in New Kensington. The manufacturing and warehouse space will be added first. The whole project is expected to be finished by next fall. The Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority is loaning Xodus $800,000 toward the expansion.
“The reason we've been able to grow our business is that we always look for new products and new market areas,” Kaforey says. Xodus is preparing to introduce some new products, he adds, although he won't go into further detail about them.
Xodus now employs 35 people and Kaforey plans to add another 10 or 20 over the next three years. They will work in various areas, including production.
