Tom Brokaw Goes to Reading, Where Seeds of Recovery Bloom

on

Braddock is not the only post-industrial Pennsylvania darling that is attracting national mainstream media attention.

For its America at the Crossroads series, NBC’s Tom Brokaw ventured to Berks County to report on the revival of Reading through a variety of initiatives. The videos, which aired earlier this week, include an overview of the situation there, an interview with Mayor Thomas McMahon, and a look at some inspiring local students.

Most recently, the Greater Reading Keystone Innovation Zone has been awarded $50,000 to accelerate technology transfer by connecting business with the region’s rich academic resources.

While much of its manufacturing might has been lost, Reading is utilizing efforts to reduce brain drain, stimulate the economy through the arts and culture, and create new opportunities for new industries like information technology.
