For the better part of three years, I sat about 10 feet away from his office inside the modest, one-story Pocono Record newspaper building on Lennox Ave. in Stroudsburg. Early in my shift, I'd hear the voice from inside the office answer his phone, “cir-kel-ayshun.” It was the gruff, signature phone-answering from the Monroe County paper's Circulation Director Bernie Kozen. Even with a small team of customer service reps, Kozen often would handle calls himself from disgruntled subscribers whose paper showed up on their doorstep late or wet.
